Whirlwind Catdusa enables transmission of analog audio, AES/EBU digital signals, or DMX lighting control signals over standard Cat-5e or Cat-6 network cables. By placing one Medusa box at each end of the system, communication between boxes is achieved via RJ45 network cables, while XLR connectors are used for device interfacing.

The Medusa unit contains four independent circuits, utilizing all four twisted pairs of the network cable. Each circuit is equipped with both male and female XLR connectors at both ends for flexible signal routing. The two RJ45 jacks are wired in parallel, facilitating easy daisy-chain connections.

All eight XLR connectors have their pin 1 connected to the RJ45 shield. Shielded Cat-5e or Cat-6 cables must be used to ensure proper phantom power operation for condenser microphones.

The Medusa functions as a 4-channel analog multi-pair snake system, using shielded Cat-5e network cables instead of traditional multi-core cables. Each channel features both male and female XLR connectors for maximum flexibility.

Two Neutrik RJ45 connectors (input/through) allow daisy-chaining of multiple Medusa units. When using shielded Cat-5e cable, the Medusa can transmit phantom power and DMX signals. Its compact size allows placement in virtually any location.

A minimum of two Medusa units is required for system operation.
